The term is often used in a derogatory fashion, especially by established printers. The reason for this is that Print Farmers sometimes present themselves as printers, going so far as to claim an impressive plant and equipment list. This reputation can be unfair since a Print Farmer often has a lot of professional experience and will have access to a range of suppliers. They can therefore find the ideal printer for your particular job. Also, because of the volume of print they buy they can negotiate competitive prices. This can mean that the percentage they take for themselves is not an issue. However, there is nothing to stop you or I from setting up as a Print Farmer regardless of ability or reliability. This is understandably irritating to a printer who has committed large amounts of capital to his business. In the end it is the quality of service that counts. Bob |
